ZeroLandfill is a collaborative, beneficial reuse program operating in nearly 20 communities since 2006. This course is designed as a call to action program that uses the stories, data, and experiences yielded from project work in Cleveland, Boston and other national markets to generate interest in starting a beneficial reuse program in the communities where the course is offered. By showing how specification waste can be reclassified as materials of value and connected to other audiences in a community, the ZeroLandfill course is designed to provide a response to a universal problem (increased landfill pressure and transportation costs) and support important constituencies in the market (artists, students and art educators).
Since 2005, the ZeroLandfill project team has assisted the architectural and interior design community in identifying, diverting from local landfills, and repurposing back into the community over 600,000 pounds of specification waste that holds value for other audiences.
