Let's face it: What we pay for water in San Diego is just a drop in the bucket compared to our average energy costs. Water is water, right? Factor in transportation costs, infrastructure and maintenance fees, and the ecological impact of our current water management system and it quickly becomes a precious commodity.
According to the City of San Diego, we import 80% to 90% of our water. Water often travels hundreds if not thousands of miles to our region. If you consider the embodied energy used in transporting a gallon of water, how much does that gallon of water truly cost?
If you would like to interact with water experts during a lively discussion about water in San Diego, please join the San Diego Green Building Council for our August 15 GreenMeet discussion on the Future of Water. After the event, please post some facts or ideas you learned about how water is sourced, how it's delivered, and how we can conserve, reuse, or reduce waste.
